Hawthorn Honey Congee
Hawthorn Berries - A Refreshing Summer Treat
Chinese hawthorn berries are commonly used to stimulate the appetite and improve spleen function. In ancient times they were viewed as having the ability to increase one’s lifespan. Hawthorn honey congee combines hawthorn berries with rice, resulting in a congee with the sweet and delicious flavor of the berries along with the soft and tender texture of the cooked rice. A small amount of honey serves to further sweeten and thicken this congee. This light dish is best served during the summer season, where it can not only dispel a gloomy summer mood, but also improve digestion and weight loss.
