Congee with “Blood-Strengthening Rice”
Black sticky rice, or purple sticky rice, is also known as “the pinnacle of rice”, “blood-strengthening rice”, or “life-lengthening rice”. It is often used by Cantonese people to enrich the blood. Black sticky rice congee with dates has a sweet scent, a glossy look, a soft, sticky mouthfeel, and a non-oily sweetness.

Ingredients
- 1/4 cup (50g grams) black sticky rice
- 1/2 cup (100 grams) glutinous rice
- 1.5 ounces (40 grams) dates
Seasonings
- crystallized rock sugar to taste

Cooking Directions
- Wash the black sticky rice and glutinous rice. Soak the black sticky rice in cold water for 2 hours, and the glutinous rice for half an hour.
- Wash the dates, remove the seeds, and soak for 20 minutes.
- Pour the water along with the rice and dates were soaked into a pot, add the appropriate amount of fresh water, bring to the boil, and simmer for 45 minutes.
- Add crystallized rock sugar and stir, boil for 2 minutes until the sugar has melted, and serve.
