Health Benefits of Delicious Ba Bao Zhou (Laba Congee)
Ba Bao Zhou, also known as Laba congee, is thick, sweet, and fragrant. It stimulates the appetite and is high in vitamins and nutrients. It lowers blood pressure and invigorates the spleen and stomach. It calms the liver and clears the eyes, enriches the blood, and aids brain function. Laba congee is particularly appropriate for treating weakness in those recovering from illness, as well as anemia, shenkui, and brain fatigue.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (100 grams) black sticky rice
- 1 ¾ ounces (50 grams) Job’s tears
- 1 ¾ ounces (50 grams) ginkgo
- 1 ¾ ounces (50 grams) walnuts
- 1 ½ ounces (40 grams) shelled peanuts
- 1 ounce (25 grams) snow fungus
- 20 jujubes (red dates)
Seasonings
- crystallized rock sugar to taste

Cooking Directions
- Wash the black rice, Job’s tears, and peanuts. Remove the shell from the ginkgo.
- Soak the snow fungus in warm water and tear into pieces.
- Add the black sticky rice, Job’s tears, peanuts, ginkgo, and snow fungus to a pot, add water as needed, bring to the boil, then reduce to a simmer.
- Add the walnuts to a pan and dry fry them until soft. Wash the jujubes (red dates).
- Once the congee has cooked, add the jujubes and crystallized sugar. Spoon into a bowl, sprinkle walnuts on top, and serve.
